shopping, train, and bus - food too

Wednesday, September 26, 2012

Mom slept good last night and woke up refreshed, maybe she won't have any jetlag.  We had caffe at a bar that had free internet so I could check email and schedules since it wouldn't be as convenient once I made it back to Bagni di Lucca.

Stolled aroumd the San Lorenzo market just looking as I won't purchase anything until I return right before I fly out, no reason to cart it all over Italy, my bags are already heavy enough.  My mom didn't come over with a carry-on so I plan on sending her home with 'stuff' to take home for me.  Will buy a cheap bag in Florence before she flys out.  Found the kitchen store in the area that was recommended on the Slow Travel site but it didn't have any wooden pasta boards-rollers that I was looking for.  Finding the place was an accomplishment in itself.

We had lunch at Trattoria da Giorgia, the food is always good and the price is right, 12 Euros (lunch)/13 Euros (dinner), included is a primi (1st course, usually pasta), secondi (2nd course, usually a meat), cortono (vegetable-side dish) and wine or water.

We took a train to Lucca and bus to Bagni di Lucca.  We strolled in Lucca for a bit as the bus we wanted to Bagni di Lucca wasn't running because school was in session.  The schedule didn't mention this but it is one of the things you have to go with the flow in Italy.  You can't let these things get to you or you'll go crazy in Italy.  It's just part of its charm.

We had a little trek up a hill getting to the apartment in Bagni di Lucca pulling moms luggage, was a bit of a trek for mom but she made it. That is one thing with all the walking one does you don't get really cold due to the cardio workout.  I count on this as it allows me to eat whatever I want, justification as I call it.

We had a lovely dinner at ??? (will update this post when I can find the name) of veal chop in balsamic reduction, roasted potatoes with rosemary, wine, and water.  Was very good.

Tommorw we leave Bagni di Lucca for Citta di Castello.  Mom really didn't have much of a stay here and if I had to do it over again would not make the quick trip back here with her but go directly to CdC as it was a lot of bus-train travel.  Oh well, lessons learned.

Walked 12,339steps = 6.21 miles.

Hey, very nice site. I came across this on Google, and I am stoked that I did. I will definitely be coming back here more often. Wish I could add to the conversation and bring a bit more to the table, but am just taking in as much info as I can at the moment. Thanks for sharing.
