back to firenze - mom arriving

Tuesday, September 25, 2012

Mom is arriving tonight in Florence at 9:30pm.  Due to train and bus schedules we can't get back to Bagni di Lucca tonight so we are staying the night in Florence.   I don't have a room reservation yet but I'm not worried.  I thought I'd have phone/internet connection in Bagni di Lucca to take care of these details but unfortunately it's not so.

Took the 1pm bus to Lucca and train to Florence.  Once I arrived I found a bench and started making some calls for a room using the past places I' ve stayed in and Rick Steves book.  Since it was late in finding a room for the night (4pm) all my contacts were full.  I did find a place in RS book that had a room - Soggiorno Anna Maria.  Had a bathroom ensuite so all was good.  The owners spoke little English but you can definately make do with sign language.  I even made a reservation to stay there my last two nights before flying home.  The location is East of the train station right by the San Lorenzo Market.  I've never stayed in this area and thought it'd be a nice change.

Only took my backpack with change of clothes-toiletries so I must say I was traveling light and wish I could figure out how to do this all the time so I didn't have to lug my huge suitcase around.  Didn't have time to eat but purchased a bus ticket to the airport and made my way to get mom.

Her flight was ontime and she had no problems.  She had slept some on her flights, Redding, CA - San Francisco - Munich - Florence so she wasn't exhausted.  We dropped her bags in the room and headed out for a stroll.

We had dinner at Antichi Cancelli of pasta, water, and wine.  Stolled around some to get a bit of exercise and then called it a night.  It was after midnight when we went to bed, not sure if mom would have jettleg or not.

Walked 10,686 steps = 5.38 miles.

Hey, very nice site. I came across this on Google, and I am stoked that I did. I will definitely be coming back here more often. Wish I could add to the conversation and bring a bit more to the table, but am just taking in as much info as I can at the moment. Thanks for sharing.
